“Digital transformation should focus on people, processes and organization. IT is only an enabler of the change.”
Personal introduction
Hi everyone, I’m is Sampo Reivilä. By background, I’m a software engineer, originally from the Finnish city of Kotka, where I actually moved back to a few years ago.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking, skiing and swimming, as well as spending time at our holiday cottage all year round. At the cottage, I like to envision different kinds of do-it-yourself projects for the future – some of which I actually never get around to realizing, though, due to lack of time. As my latest achievement, however, I could proudly present the extension I built to the deck in front of our sauna, including a drop-in tub, steady stairs and a beautiful drink holder rack. I spent much of my youth playing various board, card and role-playing games, and I must admit I’ve never really managed to break that habit in my grown-up years either. 😊 This geeky hobby also includes intensively following the developments in the field as well as different tv series and movies.
In particular, I like to follow the latest developments in technology and how technological innovations can be applied in practice, both in business and personal life.
Experience in the field
I started my professional career in 2000 and have worked with industrial companies ever since. Over the years, I have worked as a programmer, R&D manager of a software product family and project manager, as well as in sales and as an industry consultant. At the beginning of my career, I co-founded a software company that I then worked at for 8 years. In addition to my entrepreneurial career, I have served in similar roles at Novotek and Accenture.
Special expertise
In my current position at Roima, I work to boost the competitiveness and profitability of industrial companies. My deepest expertise lies in the operational development of industrial production in several sectors, such as in food & beverage, pharmaceutical, paper, process and technology industries – from small and medium-sized businesses to large listed companies. I am able to solve various types of customer needs, such as challenges in production planning, quality control, self-monitoring, material management and automatic data collection. I have a long and extensive experience in solving these challenges with different solutions and platforms in a way that the customer’s business potential can be realized in the best possible way.
Digital transformation is a big buzzword of recent years. I have been a part of that transformation already for years, working together with our customers to make this change happen. However, I have noticed that companies often decide to start this transformation only because they think that it is some kind of a must if they want to keep the company’s competitiveness and productivity at the required level also in future. Many companies thus embark on the project from the perspective of IT, for example, by acquiring new software. However, while doing so, they forget one crucial thing: namely, that what should be at the center of this change are actually people, processes and organization, while the IT is only the enabler of the change. That is the message I have tried to spread in my work, and I feel that I’ve succeeded very well in that.
